Submersible Sewage & Grinder Pumps for Industrial and Mining Applications

Submersible Sewage & Grinder Pumps for Industrial and Mining Applications

Overview

Submersible sewage and grinder pumps are designed to handle raw sewage, slurries, and solids-laden wastewater in environments where conventional pumps fail. In industrial facilities, mining operations, and remote field camps, these units operate fully submerged, eliminating priming requirements and reducing above-grade mechanical exposure.

Tiger Pumps’ GD and GDH series grinder pumps are purpose-built for high-head, solids-laden discharge applications — including mining dewatering sumps, portable sanitation systems for oil and gas camps, and permanent lift station installations in industrial facilities.

Three-phase 460V configurations are standard for industrial and mining installations. Single-phase 220V units are available for smaller remote or residential-adjacent applications.

Industrial & Mining Use Cases

Mining Camp Sanitation: Remote mining operations require reliable sewage handling without access to municipal infrastructure. Submersible grinder pumps handle solids-laden waste from camp facilities, grinding solids to a fine slurry for long-distance discharge through small-diameter force mains — reducing piping costs in remote terrain.

Industrial Lift Stations: Process facilities generating wastewater with suspended solids — food processing, chemical plants, industrial laundries — rely on grinder pumps to macerate solids before discharge to treatment or municipal sewer.

Oil & Gas Field Camps: Temporary and semi-permanent camps in oil and gas fields require compact, submersible sewage solutions. The GD series’ 1-1/4” discharge port and high-head capability support long-run force main configurations common in these installations.

Military Forward Operating Bases: WSI systems meet required specifications 100% of the time in military installations. The GD/GDH series supports FOB sanitation systems where reliability under adverse conditions is non-negotiable.

Installation Considerations

·       Pedestal and Rail Systems: Tiger WS-TOS-L3 and WS-TOS-L4 pedestal/rail/disconnect systems are available for wet-well installations, enabling pump removal without personnel entry into confined spaces.

·       Electrical: Verify site voltage and phase before specifying. 460V/3PH units require appropriate motor protection and overload settings.

·       Solids Handling: The GD series grinder mechanism handles typical domestic and light industrial waste streams. Confirm compatibility with any chemical or industrial waste components present at the site.

·       Discharge Sizing: 1-1/4” NPT discharge is standard across the GD/GDH range. Size force mains for velocity ≥ 2 ft/sec to prevent solids settling.

Maintenance Notes

All Tiger grinder pumps ship with factory documentation. Impeller replacement kits (e.g., CDLF8-8-PE-304SS-IRK for multistage variants) are stocked by WSI. Scheduled inspection intervals should account for abrasive content in the pumped media — mining and industrial streams typically require more frequent wear-part inspection than municipal applications.
