Choose by production factory
The size follows the factory—not the Tesla model.
Tesla's Berlin-Brandenburg factory currently produces Model Y. German-built vehicles use the shallower 20 mm option; vehicles built at Tesla's other factories use the 25 mm option.
25 mm
Built outside Germany
Choose 25 mm when the vehicle's manufacturer label or documents show a factory outside Germany. This is the applicable choice for Model 3, Model S and Model X, and for non-German-built Model Y vehicles.
20 mm
Built in Germany
Choose 20 mm when the vehicle was produced at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Grünheide, Germany. Tesla currently identifies Model Y as the vehicle manufactured at this factory.
European delivery clue: a Model Y delivered in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland or Czechia may be Berlin-built. Delivery country alone is not proof because Tesla can source the same market from different factories. Confirm the country of manufacture on the driver-door label or registration documents; Berlin-built vehicles also use B as the 11th VIN character. If it shows Germany / Berlin / Grünheide, choose 20 mm. Otherwise, choose 25 mm.
